Google News FR — Crime (fr) reports that the criminal court in Albertville, in Savoie, opened on Tuesday 1 September an anticipated three-day trial in a corruption case at Aiton prison.
Three prison officers and a police official face charges of corruption and drug trafficking. The four officials are suspected of having yielded to the requests of an inmate imprisoned in the same facility, granting him a series of favours in exchange for unspecified consideration.
The inmate in question, Samy R., around thirty years old and already convicted several times for fraud and corruption, was imprisoned at Aiton between 2022 and 2025. According to the Dauphiné Libéré, he had gaming consoles, cooking appliances, telephones and narcotics in his cell. He is also said to have obtained confidential information and benefited from numerous preferential treatment.
Samy R. also appears before the court, prosecuted for fraud, drug trafficking and active corruption.
The state officials, as holders of public authority, face up to ten years' imprisonment, a fine of up to one million euros as well as a ban from holding any public office. The trial is scheduled to conclude on Thursday 3 September.
