Deliberate fires in France: 514 arrests and sentences up to life imprisonment
In two months, 514 suspects including 198 minors were arrested for arson in France. Around a dozen men have already been convicted, with further trials expected.

According to TF1 Info, 514 suspects were arrested in France over a two-month period of fires, amongst them 198 minors. Around a dozen men, aged 21 to 57, have already been convicted of deliberate arson.
A quarter of those convicted present mental health disorders. Amongst them is a former volunteer firefighter, whose profile illustrates the diversity of individuals involved in these criminal acts.
The legal framework provides for severe penalties: up to fifteen years' imprisonment for deliberate arson, a sentence which can extend to life imprisonment when the fire has resulted in the death of a person. Further convictions are expected in the coming weeks as judicial proceedings advance.
