Budget fraudster on the run for a decade arrested in Hatvan
The Nyíregyháza Court sentenced S. Gy. to five and a half years' imprisonment in April 2017 for participating in budget fraud committed within a criminal organisation. The now 59-year-old man, however, did not begin serving his sentence but disappeared from the authorities' view.
Police in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, working together with staff from Hatvan Police Headquarters, arrested the man in Hatvan in recent days as a result of a wide-ranging search. Police reported on the successful operation on Saturday.
When arrested, the suspect attempted to present himself as a Ukrainian citizen, but was unable to substantiate this with any documents. The man was just six months short of the expiration of his sentence – had he managed to evade police for another half year, he would have been released from serving his sentence.
He has now been taken to a prison facility, where he must serve the five and a half year sentence.
