Fraudsters posing as banker and police officer swindled 146 million forints from woman in Csömör

Phone scam nets 146 million from Csömör woman
Unknown perpetrators posing as a bank clerk and police officer defrauded a 64-year-old woman from Csömör of 146 million forints – according to HVG citing police.hu.
The woman received a telephone call at the end of July. The unknown caller introduced himself as a clerk from her bank and claimed that the sum in her bank account was at risk, therefore urgent action was necessary. Shortly afterwards, a second person joined the call, who confirmed what had been said, claiming to be a police officer.
The callers convinced the woman to carry out transfers at the banks where she held accounts, following their instructions. The woman trusted them and completed the requested transactions. By the time she realised she had become a victim of a crime, nearly 146 million forints had already disappeared.
Proceedings have been initiated in the matter for the crime of fraud.
