The Central Investigating Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against Ferenc Pál Biró, who holds the position of president of the Integrity Authority. According to the charge, he committed abuse of office, falsification of public documents and unfaithful management of a substantial sum. This was reported by Telex.
The head of the authority spoke about the case for the first time on Tuesday. According to his position, a politically motivated proceeding is taking place against him, which was initiated because he spoke publicly about state corruption. He regards it as a peculiar coincidence that the charges arrived precisely after he gave an interview to two media outlets in which he mentioned government abuses.
The governing party responded to the president's statements in a statement. According to Fidesz, Biró is attacking because criminal liability awaits him.
The investigation began last year. According to suspicion, the president caused damage of several tens of millions of forints to the authority. Investigators questioned him in January last year, and conducted searches at multiple locations, including the headquarters of the Integrity Authority.
