Latvian law-enforcement authorities have detained eight people near Birzgale village who illegally entered the country, according to Õhtuleht.

The incident was recorded in a location in the central part of the country closer to the Lithuanian border. Some of those detained attempted to hide among trees, whilst others used their voices to attract the attention of those around them.

Officials suggest that the individuals were brought into the country via Belarus. This is the first time that illegal border crossers have been apprehended in this area.
