According to vp.gov.lv, the State Police has completed an investigation into a robbery committed in Daugavpils at the end of June this year. During the crime, unknown men placed a bag over the victim's head and stole his handbag containing personal belongings.
On 27 June, officials from the South Latgale district of the State Police's Latgale regional directorate received a report that three persons had attacked a man born in 1962 in a courtyard of a residential area near a retail shop. The stolen handbag contained a personal passport, a bank card, a wristwatch and a mobile telephone.
During the investigation, it was established that the three men had been following the victim beforehand and approached from behind. One of the attackers forcibly placed a bag over the victim's head, while another grabbed the handbag.
Police officials immediately began investigative measures. Two suspects were detained on the same day — 27 June — but the third person was detained later. All three detained persons were subject to a security measure not involving deprivation of liberty.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 2 of Article 176 of the Criminal Law — for robbery committed by a group of persons pursuant to a prior agreement. On 21 August, the criminal case materials were referred to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of criminal prosecution.
The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the procedure established by law.
