A woman working as a chef at a hotel restaurant in Oslo is charged with preparing chicken with an expired expiry date for police officers accommodated at the hotel during the watch at King Harald's funeral on 8 September. This is reported by politiforum.no on the basis of a press release from Oslo police district on Wednesday.
Police were alerted by an acquaintance of the suspected woman, who stated that the chef had prepared the expired dish knowingly and deliberately.
– The suspect is said to have written this in messages on a digital platform. The message in the communications was that no one dies from the food, but can become very ill in the stomach, says Marion Berg Hauge, police prosecutor in Oslo police district.
The woman was arrested on the grounds of risk of evidence tampering and risk of reoffending. Police simultaneously seized her digital devices.
At present, it is not known that any of the officers became ill after the meal.
Hauge emphasises that the situation was assessed as critical at the time of arrest, on the funeral day itself, as the incident could potentially have been devastating for the implementation of police operations and the watch.
– At that time it was unknown whether the woman acted alone or in collaboration with others. It was therefore important to react quickly and initiate investigation through questioning and review of the seized devices, says the police prosecutor.
Currently nothing points in the direction that the woman planned this with anyone, police state. The investigation is, however, still ongoing, and police do not wish to comment on the contents of either the suspect's or witnesses' statements.
