Warsaw prosecutors have confirmed that a red notice has been issued by Interpol for the man accused of murdering Sergeant Mateusz Sitek. The suspect is in hiding in Belarus, where extradition proceedings are underway.

Last Friday marked the second anniversary of the death of Sergeant Mateusz Sitek, who was killed whilst on duty at the border. In connection with this case, the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw has released new information regarding the search for the perpetrator.
Investigators have established that the murder of the 21-year-old soldier was committed by a Moroccan national. During a two-year investigation, officers questioned over 140 witnesses across the country and abroad. Key forensic evidence was also gathered.
In July of last year, a decision was made to press charges against the Moroccan man. He faces between 15 years in prison and a life sentence. A Warsaw court ordered that the suspect be held in custody, which allowed for the issuance of a warrant and a European Arrest Warrant.
The prosecutor's spokesman confirmed that a red notice from Interpol has also been activated against the wanted man. Law enforcement agencies located the man in Belarus. In December of last year, the authorities in Minsk received a request to apprehend and extradite the suspect to the Polish side.
Proceedings were suspended in May of this year due to the impossibility of bringing the accused before the courts of justice. The obstacle is the fact that the perpetrator is located outside the territory of the Republic of Poland, as well as the ongoing extradition procedure.
