Two young men who presented themselves as content creators on the internet have been convicted of the aggravated rape of a 16-year-old adolescent and of 27 offences related to child sexual abuse material. The abuse occurred in Loures and images of the crimes were subsequently shared on social media by the perpetrators.
The victim was only 16 years old when she was forced to engage in sexual relations with the two individuals, who were already adults. For weeks, the convicted men treated the matter as a joke, claiming that the young woman had agreed to participate. However, the court determined that at a certain point, the minor was being coerced against her will.
In addition to the two counts of aggravated rape, the court also convicted them of 27 offences related to child sexual abuse material, as they distributed images of the sexual abuse through digital platforms.
The case is shocking for the combination of sexual violence with the digital exploitation of the victim, in a context in which the perpetrators used their online presence to normalise and propagate the crimes committed.
