Slovak police have charged the brother of Radomír Šalitrošʹ, state secretary at the Ministry of Investments, in connection with suspicions of fraud in the misappropriation of money from European funds.

Slovak police have charged the brother of Radomír Šalitrošʹ, state secretary at the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatisation. The suspicion concerns fraud in obtaining money from European funds. Šalitrošʹ informed about this on Wednesday in a statement in which he described the prosecution of his relative as instrumental, politically motivated and unjustified.
According to police, damage of approximately 860,000 euros was caused in the case, which represents roughly 21 million Czech crowns. The charge came following a May raid on the state secretaryʹs brother's company. Police at that time announced that an investigator had charged one individual and one legal entity with damaging the financial interests of the European Union. Investigators claim it involved the submission of false or incomplete information in connection with an application for subsidies.
"I have serious doubts about the objectivity of the entire process. In recent months we have repeatedly faced various pressures, messages and warnings that if we do not cooperate politically, our family members, business activities or close people could become targets of interest of state bodies," Šalitrošʹ wrote on social media Facebook.
He added that he still believes that government representatives have an interest in proving to the public that the Slovak Republic is a state ruled by law in which selective justice or political contracts do not exist. "That is why I will make a final decision about my further political activity only after personal conversations with the prime minister and the minister of the interior," he noted, and questioned the legal classification itself.
