Former MP Drdula faces charges for attempted production of child sexual abuse material

The Trnava criminal police have initiated criminal proceedings against Dominik Drdula, a former member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic who was previously a member of the OĽANO movement (now the Slovakia Movement). According to information from Aktuality, he is under investigation for the crime of producing child sexual abuse material in the attempt stage and the offence of endangering the moral development of youth in the attempt stage.

The leadership of the criminal proceedings was confirmed to the TASR news agency by Zlatica Antalová from the Regional Police Directorate in Trnava. "Police officers are currently carrying out necessary procedural actions. Given the ongoing proceedings, we are currently unable to provide any further information on the matter," Antalová said. The case was highlighted by JOJ television.

According to JOJ television's findings, Drdula was allegedly communicating with profiles posing as 13-year-old girls. The communication reportedly became increasingly sexually suggestive and was accompanied by the sending of his own photographs. However, on the other end of the communication were not underage girls, but rather a so-called child predator hunter — a person who exposes individuals seeking contact with children.

In his earlier statement to the television, Drdula invoked the right to privacy. He currently holds no public office. Igor Matovič, the chairman of the Slovakia Movement, distanced himself from Drdula's conduct and reminded that Drdula was never a member of the movement and they have not worked with him for years.

On 3 August, General Prosecutor of the Slovak Republic Maroš Žilinka announced that the prosecution is acting ex officio in the matter of publicised electronic communication of a sexual nature with fictitious children from Czechia. He described the protection of children's interests as his permanent priority.
