A teenager has been taken into custody after a man was found shot dead inside an apartment in south Oklahoma City late Saturday night. The killing marks the city's 46th homicide of the year.

A man was found shot to death inside a south Oklahoma City apartment late on Saturday night, and a 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with the killing, freepressokc.com reports.

Oklahoma City Police Department officers were dispatched just after 11:00pm on Saturday, 19 September, following reports of a person with a gun at the Almonte Apartments, located in the 5900 block of S. May Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man already dead from a gunshot wound inside one of the units.

The victim's identity has not been released. Police say the name is being withheld pending confirmation of identity and notification of next-of-kin.

Eliseo Herrera, 16, was identified as a suspect. Herrera had remained at the scene when officers arrived and was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently booked into the Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center on a murder complaint.

The shooting has been recorded as the 46th homicide in Oklahoma City so far this year.

The investigation is ongoing. Charges and claims made by law enforcement have not yet been tested in court. Under the law, all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
