Driver flees after pedestrian killed in northeast Anchorage
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in northeast Anchorage on Thursday morning, alaskapublic.org reports. Anchorage police were alerted at 8:13 a.m. to a collision near the intersection of Orca Street and East 3rd Avenue, where Anchorage Fire Department medics declared a woman dead at the scene.
Police identified the driver as Vaiee Samuelu, 60, who had left the scene without stopping. She was subsequently arrested and booked into the Anchorage jail on charges of failing to render aid and leaving the scene of a crash.
The identity of the woman killed has not been released, as police said next of kin had not yet been notified. Charging documents were not immediately available.
Samuelu was held at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center and scheduled to appear in court on the charges Friday afternoon. The fatal collision is the sixth pedestrian death involving a vehicle in Anchorage so far in 2026.
