The married owners of a day spa in Cupertino, California, have been charged with operating a secret brothel that generated an estimated $700,000 per year, according to abc7news.com. Lin Wang, 46, and Xian Wang, 48, of San Jose, were arraigned Thursday alongside spa employee Rui Wang, 42, of Sunnyvale.
The Hummingbird Day Spa, which the couple has operated since 2022, allegedly provided sexual services to approximately 30 male clients per day, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office said.
All three defendants face charges of pimping and pandering, money laundering, and tax and payroll fraud.
"There is no room in our neighborhoods for working brothels," District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. "There is no room in Santa Clara County for the criminal exploitation of human beings."
The investigation was led by Human Trafficking Task Force Detective G. O'Sullivan and Investigator Corinne Abernathy. It began in March 2026 following community reports of illegal sexual activity at the premises.
Prosecutors said surveillance evidence showed a consistently high volume of men entering the establishment within short windows each day.
The Wangs are additionally accused of underreporting payroll by more than $100,000 annually. Profits were allegedly funnelled through mortgage payments on properties in San Jose and Chino Hills, as well as through various investments, the District Attorney's Office said.
A forensic financial analysis concluded that all three suspects were involved in collecting, concealing, and integrating illicit funds to sustain the business and cover personal expenses, including mortgage payments. Prosecutors described the operation as a long-term pimping and pandering scheme compounded by systematic financial fraud.
The three suspects were arrested on 10 September. Two women found at the location received support services from Community Solutions.
