An armed and intoxicated man attacked a person inside a barn in Kent County, Delaware, threatened to kill him, and fired a shot into the air as he fled the scene, nbcphiladelphia.com reports.

The incident took place on 17 September 2026, at around 11:40 p.m. along the 500 block of Black Swamp Road in Felton, Delaware, according to state police investigators.

John Baker, 55, of Bridgeville, Delaware, entered a barn on the property and began arguing with a man inside. Baker then attacked the man, drew a firearm, pointed it at him, and threatened to kill him, state police said. When a second person entered the barn, Baker pointed the gun at that individual as well before fleeing the property and discharging a single round into the air. None of the victims sustained serious injuries.

The following day, on 18 September, Baker called 911 and reported his location at a gas station on the 11000 block of South Dupont Highway in Felton. State troopers and detectives arrived at the scene and took Baker into custody without incident. Investigators subsequently determined that Baker had handed the firearm used in the attack to a friend prior to his arrest. Detectives later recovered the weapon.

Baker faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, burglary, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, aggravated menacing, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, terroristic threats, and offensive touching. He was arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction on a $116,600 cash bond.
