Two Delaware State Troopers sustained injuries after a man resisted arrest during a traffic stop in New Castle on Saturday evening, nbcphiladelphia.com reports.

The incident took place at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, 19 September, near North Dupont Highway and Hessler Boulevard. Troopers pulled over a Mitsubishi Lancer after noticing the vehicle had no registration plate displayed.

During the stop, officers established that the car was unregistered and uninsured. They also discovered that the driver — identified as 39-year-old Nolan Lewis — had multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

When troopers moved to take Lewis into custody, he resisted. He continued to kick even after being placed inside the police vehicle. Two troopers were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, and damage was caused to both personal property and Delaware State Police equipment.

A large knife was also found inside the Mitsubishi.

Lewis has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault causing physical injury to a law enforcement officer, along with additional related charges. As of Sunday night, he remained in custody on a $7,000 bond and was further held on the basis of his pre-existing arrest warrants, police said.
