Rideshare Passenger Sexually Assaulted on California Highway

A rideshare driver has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a passenger on a North County highway in San Marcos, California, with investigators warning that further victims may exist, nbcsandiego.com reports.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, the California Highway Patrol received a report from a 21-year-old woman stating that a sexual assault had taken place at approximately 2 a.m. that morning. The woman said she had been travelling in a silver 2022 Honda Accord westbound on state Route 78, toward the Twin Oaks Valley Road off-ramp, when the driver touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her during the ride.

Detectives identified and arrested the driver, Ramon Ochoa Reyes, 50. CHP Oceanside-area officers initially investigated the incident before referring the case to the CHP Border Division Major Crimes Unit.

"Because Reyes worked as a rideshare driver, detectives are asking anyone who may have had a similar encounter with him to contact investigators," CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber said.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim, or who holds information relevant to the investigation, is encouraged to contact the CHP Border Division Major Crimes Unit at 855-944-6300.
