Crash-and-grab burglary at Chicago Bucktown minimart: ATM targeted

Two suspects crashed a stolen Jeep into a Chicago convenience store early Tuesday and attempted to steal the ATM before fleeing on foot.

Two suspects smashed a stolen grey Jeep SUV into a minimart in Chicago's Bucktown neighbourhood at 3:09 a.m. Tuesday, cbsnews.com reports.

The vehicle struck the Corner Market, situated behind a Shell station at the southeast corner of Armitage Avenue and Wood Street. Once inside, the pair attempted to remove the store's ATM but abandoned the effort and fled the scene on foot, leaving the Jeep behind.

Grand Central Area detectives were investigating the incident Tuesday morning.

The Jeep's owner, located near 60th Street and Vernon Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighbourhood, told CBS News Chicago that the suspects had stolen his vehicle beforehand. Ring camera footage from his home showed the thieves pulling up and driving off with the SUV, though no faces were captured on video.
