A man was fatally shot by Provo police officers following a domestic violence call on University Parkway, kutv.com reports.

Officers responded at around 9:15 p.m. Saturday to a reported assault near 2230 N University Parkway. The victim told police the suspect was armed with a gun.

During the encounter, two officers opened fire at the suspect. They then administered first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the man to Utah Valley Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Utah County Officer-Involved Critical Incident team has opened an investigation into the shooting. Both officers who discharged their weapons were placed on administrative leave, in line with standard policy.

Police have not released the suspect's name or age. "Because of our respect for the proper investigation process, we will not be providing further details on the circumstances of this incident," Provo Police Department officials said.
