Elkton man, 19, kills uncle with vehicle in Rockingham County, girlfriend also arrested

A 19-year-old man from Elkton, Virginia, has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of his uncle, who was deliberately struck and dragged by a motor vehicle, whsv.com reports.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office responded Sunday at around 6:45 p.m. to a call near the 900 block of Koontz Corner Road, where a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. Virginia State Police and Rockingham County Fire and Rescue also attended the scene.
Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said investigators determined the victim had been "deliberately struck and subsequently dragged by a motor vehicle" before the driver fled. The victim, identified as Robert Lam Jr., 65, of Broadway, was transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival despite emergency life-saving efforts.
Multiple witnesses at the residence identified the suspect, Zachary White, as Lam's nephew. Witnesses provided vehicle details and the direction of travel, prompting law enforcement to search for White and his girlfriend, Megan Ball, 26, also of Elkton, who was reported to have been in the vehicle at the time.
Investigators determined White had switched vehicles after abandoning the original car in Fulks Run near Third Hill Road. Page County deputies located White on Storybrook Trail in Page County at approximately 1 a.m. Monday. Both White and Ball were arrested without incident and transported to the Rockingham Harrisonburg Regional Jail, where they are being held without bond.
White faces a charge of first-degree murder; Ball has been charged with accessory to murder. A hearing originally scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in Harrisonburg/Rockingham General District Court was continued to 28 September at 2 p.m.
