Portland man charged after Montavilla shooting on NE 81st Avenue

A man was pistol-whipped and shot in the 1400 block of Northeast 81st Avenue in Portland's Montavilla neighbourhood on Wednesday, 5 August 2026 at around 6:30 p.m., katu.com reports. Officers from the Portland Police Bureau's (PPB) East Precinct responded to the scene and found the adult male victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled before officers arrived.

PPB's Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) took over the investigation and identified Devin M. Stevens, 33, of St. Helens, as the suspect, along with a vehicle linked to the incident.

In the days that followed, PPB's Focused Intervention Team (FIT) located Stevens, stopped him, and seized his vehicle and phones as evidence, which allowed investigators to build further probable cause.

Stevens was arrested on Friday, 28 August 2026 and transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces charges of Assault in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the Second Degree, and three counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
