Portland Police Bureau declared a "critical incident" at Southeast 97th Avenue and Stark Street on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24, according to OPB.

Officers were called to the scene just before 2:30 p.m. By 3 p.m., more than 40 emergency units had gathered near Mall 205 and several surrounding businesses.

Police did not immediately disclose the nature of the emergency. However, an employee at the Chestnut Tree Inn told OPB that officers had shot a person and that a police K-9 was struck and injured by gunfire in the hotel's parking lot.

An OPB reporter on the scene confirmed that the northern end of the parking lot had been cordoned off with police tape. Officers were interviewing people on the property at the time.

The Portland Police Bureau had not released further details about the incident as of that report.
