Man fatally shot by police after firing at officers during St. Louis standoff

According to spectrumlocalnews.com, St. Louis County Police officers responding to a welfare check on the 200 block of Tapestry Drive on Tuesday afternoon were immediately met with gunfire from the occupant inside.

The incident began at approximately 2:15 p.m. The man, later identified as 40-year-old Ryan Woods, fired multiple rounds from inside the residence — both at responding officers and at neighbouring homes.

Officers issued repeated loudspeaker commands ordering Woods to surrender. He continued firing throughout. A tactical officer returned fire into the property during the standoff.

When officers ultimately breached the door, they found Woods dead from a gunshot wound sustained during the exchange. No officers were physically injured.

The officer who fired is 44 years old and has 18 years of law enforcement experience, according to police.

St. Louis County Police described the matter as an active investigation, adding that preliminary details remain subject to change.
