Memphis Woman and Man Charged After Victim Shot, Teeth Knocked Out in Debt Ambush

Memphis Pair Accused of Luring Man Into Ambush Over Debt

Bailey Jobin, 23, and Joseph Polk, 20, were arrested in Memphis, Tennessee after a man was shot through the thigh and had several teeth knocked out during an orchestrated attack, Law & Crime reports, citing Shelby County court records.

Both suspects face charges of aggravated robbery. Polk additionally faces charges of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of property valued between $2,500 and $10,000.

According to an affidavit of complaint, the incident occurred on a Wednesday when the victim agreed to ride in a vehicle with Jobin, Polk, and a third unidentified man. Jobin allegedly sat in the backseat beside the victim while the other two men occupied the front seats. Authorities say she was "orchestrating the luring" of the victim by enticing him to enter the vehicle.

The group drove to a residence on Pope Street in Memphis. Once there, a fourth man arrived — one to whom the victim reportedly owed money related to a vehicle transaction. That man pulled the victim from the car and demanded payment.

The victim was then forced to strip naked and was ordered to go to the backyard of the property. He refused, telling his attackers, "You're going to have to kill me here."

Polk allegedly responded by drawing a handgun and shooting the victim through the right thigh. Two other men then struck the victim repeatedly in the head, knocking out several of his teeth. His cellphone was also taken by the suspects.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital. Memphis Police Department detectives subsequently interviewed him and established the sequence of events. No information on his current condition was provided.

Jobin and Polk are both scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
