North Texas officer hospitalised in critical condition after pursuit ends in highway crash

A Roanoke Police Department officer is in critical condition after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle during a pursuit along State Highway 114 early Sunday morning, cbsnews.com reports.

Officers were conducting traffic enforcement on the highway in response to multiple complaints about speeding motorcyclists near an event at the Texas Motor Speedway. During the operation, one officer on a police motorcycle attempted to stop a motorcyclist who fled at speed. Both the officer and the fleeing rider then struck a 2023 Ford Transit Van on the highway, just west of Interstate 35W, according to a press release issued by the Northlake Police Department.

The officer was transported to hospital and remains listed in critical condition. The suspect, identified as a resident of Lawton, Oklahoma, is in custody and is also receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

Northlake Police said the roadway was closed until 6 a.m. to allow investigators to document the scene. The department said it will continue its investigation and pursue appropriate charges.

Roanoke Police asked the public for prayers and thoughts for the officer, his family, and the department. In a subsequent Facebook post, the department also shared information on how community members could offer support to the officer's family.

No further details were immediately available.
