Sycamore man fatally shot by police after charging officers with knife

A man was shot and killed by Sycamore police on Saturday night after allegedly charging at officers with a knife. Illinois State Police are now investigating the incident.

According to rockfordnewsfirst.com, Sycamore police shot and killed a man on the evening of Saturday, 19 September, after he allegedly charged at officers wielding a knife.

Officers were dispatched around 8 p.m. to the area of Foxpointe Drive and Constance Lane following a report that someone had approached a vehicle with an object in hand. Upon arrival, police say they located a man armed with a knife who then moved toward them, prompting officers to open fire.

The man was struck and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.

The officers involved were also taken to hospital for evaluation and have since been discharged.

Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation into the shooting. The Sycamore Police Department has confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
