Teen Killed in Shooting Near Fresno State Campus, One Suspect in Custody

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday night at an apartment complex near Ninth Street and Bulldog Lane in Fresno, California, according to yourcentralvalley.com. Police have since arrested one of three suspects believed to be involved.

Doorbell camera footage obtained exclusively by the outlet shows a group of masked individuals approaching apartment doors before the shooting. In the video, one person is heard saying, "It's not this one." Seconds later, gunfire erupted a few doors down.

Neighbours told reporters they observed a group of three to four masked suspects trying multiple doors before shots were fired. The group then fled on foot.

The attack took place just steps from Valley Children's Stadium while Fresno State's football home opener was still in progress. Officers arrived at the scene within seconds, according to residents.

Neighbour Steve said he was shaken to learn the victim was a teenager. "It's really disheartening to hear that someone was 17. Their life is just beginning," he said. Steve also expressed concern for family members living in the complex, noting a relative with four young daughters resides there. He said she regularly reports incidents — shootings, attempted home invasions — to him, and that many units have since had security screen doors installed.

The complex is fitted with numerous surveillance cameras and security measures, residents noted, though some say they remain uneasy about safety in the neighbourhood.

Saturday's killing comes months after two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, were shot and killed near San Jose and Fourth Street, several blocks away. Authorities said the victims were among a group of four teens with gang ties who were deliberately targeted. A 17-year-old in that group survived. Police subsequently arrested 25-year-old Lelan Lee in connection with that earlier case.

Steve said residents have noticed a marked rise in criminal activity in recent months. "Actually, been going downhill considerably, which is a concern when we have games and things like that," he said, adding: "It seems like there are so many gang-affiliated shootings and stuff going on now; it's just really, really sad."

The investigation into Saturday night's shooting remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fresno Police.
