Twelve individuals are now in custody following the fatal shooting of Claiborne County Sheriff's Deputy Terrian Bailey, wlbt.com reports, citing the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS).

Bailey was attempting to disperse a large crowd in the early morning hours of 7 September when he was shot. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Each of the twelve suspects faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and conspiracy to commit murder. One individual — identified as Butler — had initially been sought as a wanted suspect before being taken into custody later on Friday.

The arrests were the result of a joint operation involving multiple local, state, and federal agencies: the Hinds Metro SWAT Team, the Hinds and Warren County Sheriff's Departments, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, FBI, ATF, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

MDPS Commissioner Sean Tindell credited the breadth of the collaboration. "Today's arrests reflect the determination and collaboration of law enforcement at every level to pursue justice for Deputy Bailey, his family, and the community he served," Tindell said. "I am grateful to every investigator, agent, and officer who worked tirelessly on this case."

MDPS confirmed the investigation remains preliminary and ongoing. Case findings will be submitted to the District Attorney's Office upon completion. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
