Fake Doctor Charged with Homicide After Client Dies from Anti-Aging Injection in NYC

An unlicensed spa operator in the upscale Riverdale neighborhood of Upper Manhattan has been charged with homicide following the death of a 27-year-old woman who received an NAD+ anti-aging injection at his facility, NY Post Metro reports.

Luis Rojas Cabrera, 55, administered the treatment to Elizabeth Baron at his Bereshit Lifestyle Center. Baron went into cardiac arrest shortly afterward and died in July. The NYPD said the charges against Rojas Cabrera were recently upgraded to homicide after the results of Baron's autopsy were finalized.

Rojas Cabrera holds no medical license in the United States, though he is licensed in the Dominican Republic. He was initially arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court on July 20 on charges of reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of a profession, and was released without bail at that time.

NAD+, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, has become a widely sought-after wellness treatment in recent years. Public endorsements from celebrities including models Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber helped drive demand for the injections.

Rojas Cabrera has two prior arrests on record, including one related to an attempt to bring medical supplies into the country.

Officials indicated that additional charges against him may still be forthcoming, according to NY Post Metro sources.
