Murder convict recaptured after escaping Kingston federal prison

A 42-year-old inmate who walked away from a minimum-security unit at a federal prison in Kingston, Ontario, has been recaptured, theglobeandmail.com reports.

Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson Bill Dickson said the man was arrested without incident on Wednesday. Prison staff had discovered he was missing during a formal count at Collins Bay Institution on Tuesday.

The inmate was serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder. Kingston Police were notified immediately after the escape was confirmed, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Dickson said the man has since been charged with being unlawfully at large. Correctional Service Canada has announced it will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the escape.
