Burglar storms flat in Vienna's Favoriten district – residents call police
In the early hours of Friday, a man broke into a ground-floor flat in Vienna's 10th district. The residents present noticed the incident and alerted the police, according to the portal 5min.at.
The incident occurred at around 3.30 a.m. The suspect allegedly first smashed a window in the kitchen with a stone to gain entry. He then began searching the premises for valuables.
The tenants became aware of the noises and immediately contacted the emergency services. The burglar apparently failed to notice the presence of the residents and continued his search undeterred. Even when officers arrived, he continued searching through cupboards and drawers in the living and kitchen areas.
Police arrested the 40-year-old at the scene. Various stolen identity documents and a small quantity of drugs were found on him. Officers seized the items found.
The man from Algeria was charged. He faces charges of attempted burglary, forgery of documents and violations of the Narcotics Act. The Vienna prosecutor's office ordered his detention in a prison facility.
