Officers from Innsbruck police detained a 27-year-old foreign national and his 22-year-old companion during a routine check on Tuesday. Initially, only an administrative violation was in question, but an uninvolved witness approached the patrol and provided explosive information.
The passer-by stated that the male person being checked could be active in the red-light district. He also pointed to a nearby inn where two women were located who were allegedly being forced into sexual services against their will.
The investigators then spoke to the two 23-year-old women. They reported consistently that they had been lured into prostitution through feigned romantic relationships. They were forced to hand over all their earnings to the main suspect. One of the two stated that she had been physically assaulted and intimidated. She expressed serious fear of the man.
On the orders of the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office, the 27-year-old was taken into custody. He faces charges of pimping and aggravated coercion. In the course of further investigations, evidence also accumulated for document forgery, assault and criminal damage.
The 22-year-old companion also came under the scrutiny of the justice system. She is suspected of having assisted in the crimes and of making life-threatening threats against one of the women.
