Federal Operation Inflicts R$ 4.4 Million Losses on Organised Crime in Five Days
Coordinated actions by Senasp between 24 and 28 May resulted in 65 arrests, seizure of 813 kg of drugs and 37 vehicles. Since 11 May, accumulated losses to organised crime reach R$ 298 million.
Operation Seizes 813 kg of Drugs and 37 Vehicles in Five Days of Integrated Actions
Operation Brazil Against Organised Crime inflicted an estimated loss of R$ 4.4 million on criminal factions during the period of 24 to 28 May, according to a balance sheet released by the National Public Security Secretariat (Senasp) via the gov.br portal.
Over five days of operations, security forces seized 813.3 kg of narcotics — including cannabis, skunk and cocaine — as well as 37 vehicles, including automobiles, boats and aircraft used in the transport of illicit goods by criminal organisations. The actions also resulted in 65 arrests and apprehensions.
The operation is coordinated by Senasp's General Coordination of Borders and the Amazon (CGFron) and involves joint action by state and federal forces in border areas, state boundaries and strategic logistical corridors.
Jacks Galvão, general coordinator of Borders and the Amazon at Senasp, attributed the results to operational integration between different levels of public security. "Organised crime operates in a coordinated manner and, for this reason, our response needs to be increasingly integrated. The results from this week demonstrate the operational capacity of security forces to identify criminal routes, seize drugs, remove resources from criminal organisations and arrest their members," Galvão stated.
Accumulated Since 11 May
Since the operation began on 11 May, the Brazil Against Organised Crime programme has accumulated estimated losses of R$ 298 million for criminal factions. During this period, 78.7 tonnes of drugs were seized — including cannabis, skunk, cocaine and cocaine paste — and 449 vehicles were recovered.
The actions also generated 508 arrests and apprehensions, in addition to the seizure of approximately R$ 103 million in currency and financial assets. The recovery or prevention of losses to public coffers totalled around R$ 3.57 million.
Cannabis seizures alone represent losses exceeding R$ 50.7 million to organised crime. Cocaine and cocaine paste account for more than R$ 25.4 million in losses for criminal organisations.
The initiative is part of the federal Brazil Against Organised Crime programme, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Union and states in countering criminal factions, transnational crimes and the financial decapitalisation of these organisations. Operations continue across all 27 federal units, with a focus on drug trafficking, arms trafficking, smuggling and environmental crimes.
