Confessed author of Carabineros officer's killing in Renca held in preventive detention

Sixth person detained for Carabinero Ortiz's murder in Renca ordered into preventive detention
A court resolved on Sunday the preventive detention of Denis Alexei Barrera Alarcón, 36, identified as the material author of the killing of Carabinero Alejandro Ortiz in the municipality of Renca, Metropolitan Region, according to elinformadorchile.cl.
Ortiz, 32, was off-duty on 27 August when he travelled to the intersection of 21 de Mayo and Miraflores streets, in the El Perejil locality, to complete the sale of a product marketed through a marketplace platform. At that location he was approached by three unknown assailants who shot him within seconds and then fled the area.
Barrera Alarcón confessed to being the one who fired the weapon first against the police officer. He was formally charged with the crime of robbery with murder, becoming the sixth defendant held in preventive detention in connection with this case.
The Carabineros OS9 department located and detained him in recent hours, following an investigation that had already resulted in the arrest of five other individuals. Among the previously detained is a woman in whose possession the murder weapon used in the attack was found.
Since the start of the investigation, three direct participants in the crime have been identified: Barrera Alarcón himself and two individuals who remain at large to date, identified as Claudio Alejandro Valdivia Erazo, 29, and Francisco Javier Rivera Galás, 31.
The investigation remains under secrecy in order not to disclose information that could impede ongoing procedures.
