Arrest in Lota following shots fired outside nightlife venue in San Pedro de la Paz

Detectives from the Robbery Investigation Brigade (BIRO) of Concepción of the PDI detained a 23-year-old man identified as the alleged perpetrator of an attempted homicide committed in the early hours of Sunday, 6 September, according to elcontraste.cl.

The attack occurred when the victim was leaving a nighttime entertainment venue in San Pedro de la Paz. An individual intercepted him on the public road and shot him repeatedly, striking him with two bullets before fleeing the scene.

After reviewing surveillance cameras and analysing evidence collected at the site, investigators identified the suspect and obtained judicial search and seizure warrants for two addresses: one in Lota and another in San Pedro de la Paz.

During the operation carried out in Lota, the alleged attacker was captured. In his possession was found a 9mm calibre pistol with the serial number erased, accompanied by two magazines with ammunition. Also seized were 55 unprimed 9mm cartridges, clothing that he allegedly wore at the time of the crime, and cash. Additionally, 111.19 grammes of cannabis sativa were seized, both in measured doses and in bulk.

Subprefect Christian Irribarra, head of BIRO Concepción, explained the sequence of events: "This happens when a group of people, who are customers of a venue, are walking on the public road after the nighttime establishment has closed. This subject approaches them, and for circumstances that we are still investigating, he causes injuries to the victim with two shots."

At the property searched in San Pedro de la Paz, a second subject was detained: a 31-year-old Venezuelan citizen in irregular immigration status, caught in flagrante delicto infringing Law No. 20,000. At that residence, cocaine, ketamine, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and a private vehicle were seized.

Regarding a possible link between the second detainee and the shooting attack, Irribarra stated that "these are circumstances that are under investigation" and that various electronic devices are currently being analysed.

The mayor of San Pedro de la Paz, Juan Pablo Spoerer, praised the coordination between institutions and the role of municipal cameras in resolving the case. "Just days after this unfortunate incident occurred, there are already two alleged perpetrators in detention and probably with the establishment of serious precautionary measures," stated the municipal chief. Spoerer added that the area where the incident occurred "concentrates an important gastronomic and tourist offering" and that authorities will strengthen the security presence and expand the camera network.

Both defendants were remanded to the Guarantee Court of San Pedro de la Paz for their detention control hearing and formalisation of charges for attempted homicide, illegal carrying of a firearm with erased serial number, and infraction of the Drug Law.
