Arrest of fugitive in connection with homicide of carabinero officer in Población El Perejil
The ECOH Prosecution Office confirmed on Sunday the arrest of one of three men sought as suspected perpetrators of the murder of Second Corporal Alejandro Ortiz Vásquez, according to lacuarta.com.
Ortiz Vásquez, 32, a member of the Conchalí Norte Sub-commissariat detail, was shot in the face on 27 August in Población El Perejil, in the municipality of Renca, Metropolitan Region. The attack apparently occurred while the officer was making a delivery of a product sold through Marketplace.
The detained man was identified as Demmis Alexei Barrera Alarcón, 36, captured by the OS9. Barrera Alarcón has accumulated arrests and criminal records since 2007, including robbery with violence, robbery with intimidation, robbery by surprise, carrying a bladed weapon, marijuana trafficking, carrying a firearm, and public disorder offences.
Authorities are continuing their search for the other two suspected perpetrators: Claudio Alejandro Valdivia Erazo and Francisco Javier Rivera Galaz. To date, five accomplices in the crime have been arrested.
