PDI raids Llay Llay municipality over irregular contracts awarded to firms linked to officials
The Police of Investigations (PDI) raided Llay Llay Municipality on Friday in the Valparaíso region, as part of an investigation into alleged tax fraud, according to biobiochile.cl.
The operation stems from a complaint filed by councillor Solange Pizarro, which names the former Finance Director, Jasna Elkins—who has been removed from her position—and Mayor Edgardo González. The accusation focuses on the repeated awarding of contracts and direct agreements to the company Servicios y Construcciones IBAMAT Ltda., which was operating in joint venture with Ingeniería y Desarrollos Constructivos Ltda.
Both companies are said to have links with relatives of municipal officials.
The complaint covers seven offences: tax fraud, incompatible dealings, falsity in sworn declaration, disclosure of secrets and use of privileged information, bribery, corruption and trafficking of influence.
Initially it was reported that Mayor González had been detained, but that version was later ruled out.
