A man testified before Rostock Regional Court on Friday who says he directed the accused Gina H. to the location where the body of eight-year-old Fabian was later discovered. Christian D. stated that this happened a day before the official discovery by police.
The 30-year-old Gina H. is facing charges of murder. She is accused of killing her ex-partner's son with multiple stab wounds. The alleged motive was a conflict with the boy's father. The defence emphasises that the presumption of innocence applies to her client.
During the several-hour questioning, the witness was aggressively challenged by lawyers for the accused. Defence attorney Thomas Löcker questioned the man's credibility and pointed out that the witness himself estimated his own memory at only "70 to 80 per cent". In an earlier interrogation, D. allegedly even said he could remember something different when repeating his statements.
According to prosecutor Harald Nowack, the witness's account suggests possible knowledge of the crime. Gina H. took the initiative to look at precisely that pond. Additionally, the witness noted that his messages to her on the day of the alleged killing did not arrive because she had allegedly switched off her phone.
Christian D. found the woman's behaviour after the discovery particularly remarkable. He stated that she laughed and made jokes, which unsettled him. Afterwards he felt "exploited".
The trial resumes next Tuesday. Another man is expected to testify who also says he was directed to the discovery site by the accused.
