Investigators are focusing on multiple locations in a field and in a bush in the immediate vicinity of the power plant and a substation in the town of Eschweiler. A reporter from the German Press Agency (dpa) observed officers documenting the areas photographically.
Previously, two confession letters had surfaced, which according to dpa information are both believed to have come from a man from Gevelsberg near Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia. In them, the man claimed responsibility for recent attacks on the energy network in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia and named Weisweiler as a further planned crime scene.
Police had begun systematically searching the site on Friday morning. The authorities initially made no statement about any potential findings.
