Forensic investigation personnel are deployed in protective suits and breathing apparatus. Their focus is on several locations in a field and in bushes near the power plant and a transformer station in the city of Eschweiler — as observed by a reporter for the German Press Agency (dpa). Officers documented the relevant areas photographically.
Previously, two confession letters had surfaced, which according to dpa information are both believed to be from a man from Gevelsberg near Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia. In them, the man claimed responsibility for the recent attacks on the energy network in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. He explicitly named Weisweiler as a further planned crime scene.
Police initially made no comment on possible findings at the site. The operational forces were increasingly reinforced in the course of the deployment.
