Google News FI — Crime (fi) reported that the Southeastern Finland Police have clarified the victim count in the Lappeenranta deepfake case: according to current information, there are 35–40 victims. Previously, it was estimated that there could have been more than a hundred.
A minor boy from Lappeenranta is suspected of creating nude images using artificial intelligence, with multiple underage girls as victims. According to police, all victims live or have lived in Lappeenranta. Southeastern Finland Police crime commissioner Pia Katajala confirms that all nude images are artificially generated — there are no genuine images among them.
Katajala also dispels a name list circulated on social media: it was not compiled by the suspect and is not a list of the case's injured parties. Nude images have not been sold or distributed further.
Police have been in contact with victims and will hear from them in the coming weeks. According to police information, threats and harassment directed at the suspect have decreased from the situation a week ago; two harassment cases have been reported as crimes.
Police investigation of the case will take several weeks, possibly months.
