Tampere woman arrested in connection with strangling death in Vaasa – male partner found dead at home
A 26-year-old woman from Tampere is suspected of the murder of her male partner in Vaasa's Palosaar district in November 2025. The woman was arrested approximately six months after the body was discovered.

According to Ilta-Sanomat, Ostrobothnia police suspect a 26-year-old Tampere woman of the murder of her 37-year-old male partner in Vaasa's Palosaar district last November. Police state in their press release that the homicide investigation has been concluded.
The man was found dead in his own flat in Palosaar on 28 November 2025. A family member made the discovery. Based on post-mortem changes observed on the deceased, the man was estimated to have been in the flat for several days before being found.
Initially, police did not suspect that a crime was involved in the death, but investigated the case as a matter of determining cause of death. Suspicion of a homicide emerged as the investigation progressed.
A turning point in the investigation came when property went missing from the flat. Items belonging to the man were absent from the home, and his car had also disappeared. Police opened a preliminary investigation into suspected motor vehicle theft and theft, and suspicion fell on the man's female partner.
In December 2025, police conducted a search of the woman's flat in Tampere. Property belonging to the man was found there. The missing car was later found in the vicinity of the suspected woman's flat.
The couple had been in a relationship since 2024. According to police, the relationship had been marked by prolonged tension and repeated domestic violence. During 2024–2025, police had conducted several preliminary investigations concerning suspected domestic violence offences between the parties.
In police's assessment, a dispute arose between the man and woman at the victim's flat on 19 November 2025. The woman is suspected of strangling the man, as a result of which he became lifeless. Emergency services were not called to the scene. The man is believed to have died as a result of the strangulation. After this, the woman is suspected by police of taking the man's property and leaving the scene in the man's car.
"Not all deaths present themselves immediately as they turn out to be as the investigation progresses. In this case, the overall picture of events was built up gradually on the basis of several different investigative measures and information obtained," said investigation leader, detective inspector Mikko Uusimäki in the press release.
The woman was arrested on 8 May and remanded in custody on 11 May. She remains in custody.
