Lappeenranta artificial intelligence image scandal: around 35–40 minor victims
Police have refined estimates in the Lappeenranta deepfake case: there are now believed to be approximately 35–40 victims. A minor boy is suspected of creating artificial intelligence-generated nude images of underage girls.

Google News FI — Crime (fi) reported that according to current police estimates, the victim count in the Lappeenranta deepfake case is 35–40. Originally, victims were thought to number over one hundred.
A minor boy from Lappeenranta is suspected of creating artificial intelligence-generated nude images of several underage girls. According to Pia Katajala, criminal commissioner of South-Eastern Finland Police, all of the nude images were created using artificial intelligence — contrary to rumours, none of them are authentic. The images have also not been sold or distributed further.
South-Eastern Finland Police has been in contact with the victims and will hear from them over the coming weeks. According to police information, all victims live or have lived in Lappeenranta.
Katajala also states that a name list circulating on social media was not created by the suspect and is not a list of those affected in the case.
The suspected minor has been subject to threats and harassment, two instances of which have been filed as criminal reports. According to Katajala, the harassment has since diminished.
Police handling of the case will take several weeks, possibly months.
