Murder inquiry in Vantaa's Martinlaakso: police seek witnesses

According to Iltalehti, more than a week has passed since the suspected murder in Vantaa's Martinlaakso, but police are keeping the investigation's details tightly under wraps.
A man aged over 20 was found dead in his own flat on Laajaniitynkuja on Wednesday 26 August. Crime Commissioner Sanna Rentola is leading the investigation, but has not disclosed details of the case.
"It is my responsibility to ensure that I do not damage the investigation by releasing information to the public too early," Rentola said on Friday.
There have been no detention requests filed at the Eastern Uusimaa District Court, which suggests that the suspected perpetrator remains at large and is probably on the run.
Rentola emphasises that secrecy does not mean the investigation has stalled.
"We are not in the dark. The investigation has made good progress."
The criminal charge of murder, under the law, refers to particular brutality, cruelty or premeditation. Neighbours have reported bloodstains in the apartment building's hallway in front of the lift, and one Iltalehti reader witnessed the body being carried out of the stairwell.
Police are asking anyone who was in the Laajaniitynkuja area between 20:00 and 23:00 on the night of the incident to get in touch. Following an earlier appeal, several individuals have already come forward – dog walkers are also still being sought.
"Anyone who was in that area may have valuable observations for us," Rentola says.
