Barella case: Rosa's mother, alleged victim, moved by donations for her legal action against the State
Four days after the funeral of Lyhanna, the eleven-year-old girl murdered in the Gers, solidarity is being expressed through two online crowdfunding campaigns. One comes to the aid of the family of the young victim, the other supports Rosa, a secondary school pupil who accuses the same suspect, Jérôme Barella, of having raped her.
Audrey, Rosa's mother, discovered with emotion that hundreds of people had contributed to a fundraising drive. For months, she had felt isolated whilst reporting the alleged sexual assaults suffered by her daughter. Today, she is overwhelmed by the scale of the support received. "It bothers me. Actually, I don't want people to tell me that I want to take advantage of them. I thank everyone very much and all those who participated. I won't use this money. I'm going to put it into a closed account for my daughter, because she needs it to rebuild herself and make a fresh start," she confided.
This crowdfunding campaign was created by Rémi Rodriguez, a taekwondo instructor for the young girl. Around 450 people have already participated, raising close to 15,000 euros. The instructor explained his approach: "It's her own battle that she is waging. She is taking on the fight of all the victims. It's a complaint, a legal process that could last a long time. And we thought, if at least we can relieve her of the financial side, she'll be able to pursue her battle peacefully."
Audrey has initiated legal proceedings against the State, believing that the authorities did not adequately protect her daughter. The funds collected will be used to cover the legal costs of this action.
