An armed man killed his neighbour and wounded her companion on Friday afternoon in Plourin-lès-Morlaix, in Finistère, according to the prosecutor of the Republic in Brest, confirming information reported by France Info.
The incident occurred in the early afternoon on Friday 4 September. Residents reported gunshots in the municipality, which triggered the immediate deployment of a substantial police operation. Police and rescue services intervened urgently at the home of a man in his fifties.
According to the Brest prosecutor's office, two shots had initially been mentioned, then a third. Following this third shot, it was reported that the man in question was found unresponsive, information that the prosecutor's office said remained to be confirmed.
The victim and her companion
The woman killed was the suspect's neighbour. Her companion—initially wrongly presented as her son—was also struck by the suspect. In the evening, prosecutor Stéphane Kellenberger clarified that this wounded man was "seriously" injured but "out of danger".
The suspect airlifted in very critical condition
The gunman was airlifted in the evening in a condition deemed "very critical". He presents, according to Stéphane Kellenberger, "a head wound", suggesting "on his part an attempted suicide".
