Armed man barricaded in Plourin-lès-Morlaix: one woman killed, 50 gendarmes deployed
An armed man barricaded himself in a building in Plourin-lès-Morlaix (Finistère), resulting in one death and one seriously injured person among his neighbours.

A woman died and a man was seriously wounded on Friday 4 September in Plourin-lès-Morlaix, in Finistère, after gunshots were reported in a building on rue Pierre Grall. According to BFM TV, the prefecture confirmed that a law-enforcement operation was underway, urging the public to "absolutely avoid the area".
Around 2 p.m., gendarmes and emergency services intervened urgently following detonations reported by local residents. "Two shots were mentioned, followed by a third," specified the Republic Prosecutor of Brest, Stéphane Kellenberger, in a statement.
A woman of approximately 60 years old was found dead at the scene. Her partner, aged approximately 55 years old, was also struck by a bullet upon their arrival at the location. Seriously wounded, he was nevertheless out of danger from a medical standpoint, according to the Brest prosecutors' office, which provided these details to BFM TV. The deceased victim and the injured man are "apparently neighbours of the person in question," the magistrate added.
The armed man, described as a man in his fifties, was initially located by the gendarmes, unconscious and armed. He presented a head wound. "The circumstances and findings can lead us to suppose on his part an attempted suicide," the prosecutors' office indicated.
Fifty gendarmes and three negotiators were deployed on rue Pierre Grall, according to a source from the gendarmerie cited by BFM TV. Three surveillance and intervention platoons of the gendarmerie were also mobilised in Châteaulin, Landerneau and in the Plourin-lès-Morlaix district. The area was cordoned off and placed under police control.
The Finistère prefecture issued a message on X urging residents not to overload telephone lines and to allow security forces to operate without hindrance. The town hall of Plourin-lès-Morlaix relayed these instructions on Facebook, urging residents to "strictly follow the instructions of law enforcement".
A medical and psychological support unit was moreover set up for those who felt they needed it, according to the municipality. An investigation in flagrante delicto was opened on the grounds of murder and attempted murder.
