Marseille: manager of drug network unmasked after speeding check
A speeding motorist arrested in Marseille turned out to be the manager of a dealing point. A weapon, cash and luxury goods were seized.

Speeding driver in the 3rd arrondissement revealed to be a drug trafficker
According to lefigaro.fr, it was a routine speeding check that led Marseille police officers to dismantle the head of a drug trafficking network active in the Bouches-du-Rhône. On the evening of Tuesday 1 September, shortly before midnight, officers from the departmental intervention company (CDI) positioned in the 3rd arrondissement of Marseille intercepted a vehicle registered in Germany travelling at high speed.
The driver and his passenger, both in their twenties, were concealing just over 7,000 euros in cash on them. This sum led the police to place them immediately in custody.
Weapon, luxury goods and incriminating phone
Searches conducted at the main suspect's home quickly produced several incriminating pieces of evidence: luxury items — including handbags — as well as a 9mm calibre handgun concealed in a hidden compartment. Thorough examination of his mobile phone subsequently confirmed that he held the role of manager of a dealing point located in a housing estate.
The young man is from Port-de-Bouc, a town located some forty kilometres from Marseille. He was already known to police services for drug-related offences and was under a suspended sentence at the time of his arrest. The 3rd arrondissement where he was intercepted is currently marked by a series of settling of scores linked to drug-related gang violence.
Referral for immediate appearance
The investigation, opened in flagrante delicto and entrusted to the local judicial police service (SLPJ) of Marseille's Northern Division, established his responsibility in the management of the network. According to a source close to the case, the two suspects were brought before the courts following their custody. The passenger benefited from a hearing on prior admission of guilt (CRPC), whilst the alleged drug trafficker was referred to the criminal court for an immediate appearance hearing.
