Violence in Paris out-of-school care centres: 203 criminal investigations underway
Paris City Hall displays its anti-violence measures outside several schools to reassure parents. The prosecution office has recorded 203 criminal investigations, including numerous cases of sexual violence.

The City of Paris displayed a list of measures adopted to combat violence committed by supervisors against children outside several school buildings at the start of the school year. According to Le Figaro, this approach is part of an operation aimed at easing the concerns of families following a scandal shaking the Paris out-of-school care sector.
Figures published by the Paris prosecution office on 31 August have heightened alarm. To date, 203 criminal investigations are open concerning acts of violence — including sexual violence — in out-of-school care structures and schools in the capital. Among these cases, 143 concern nursery schools, 36 concern primary schools and 24 concern day-care facilities. The suspects are, in their vast majority, supervisors.
As early as 9 June, Paris mayor Emmanuel Grégoire had announced the suspension of 132 supervisors since the beginning of 2026, of which 52 were suspended on suspicion of sexual or sexist violence.
In a statement, Grégoire promised to visit several schools personally in order to meet with children and staff. The city hall also had a message placed outside the entrances of establishments for parents: "The City of Paris is acting alongside you against violence against children".
The scale of the investigations and the speed of suspensions reflect mounting pressure on municipal authorities, as the previous school year had already been marked by numerous revelations in this sector.
